Brigid , the Druid Goddess of poetry, story telling & childbirth. She is sacred to the festival of Imbolc, 1st Feb in the British Isles & Ireland . Tradition is to light candles by holy wells in her honour. She plays a fantastical instrument…made of a peacock curving around her bright arrow of inspiration. ( a reference to Saraswati indian goddess of music ) The strings resonate with the magic manifesting cauldron of her womb space, where she is connected with the universe . The surface of the water reflects the love, light & space of her heart . This piece was initially a commission for Milli Moonstone, an album cover for her album ” Shining Through ” . Inspired by an apparition received on Imbolc, when the goddess led me to find a cottage with a silver birch grove, where i lived for 4 years. Her skin was painted from imprints i took from the bark in the woods, so contains the actual signature of the trees.
